Wow. I can’t entirely disagree with Morgan’s thoughts on Modern Warfare 2, I thought the game’s narrative was certainly lacking in terms of how the missions were being tied together. The levels, on their own, were outstanding, but they really didn’t provide enough of a narrative drive that kept me from wanting to see what was next, other than just beating the game.
It was totally implausible. It doesn’t resolve. Basically, all the things that bad storytelling does. I just think they were way too impressed with themselves and that’s always a danger. It’s just unfortunate.
Conversely, with Uncharted 2, those guys went back and look at the first game, everything that didn’t work very well, they fixed or ramped up or did something with.
They really took it to a new place and you can honestly say to people if you played the first game, the second one is the same but better. Modern Warfare 2 is the same but… way worse. And it cost more money."
On the flip-side, the first Crysis’ story wasn’t exactly really groundbreaking either and while that problem was remedied with Crysis: Warhead, I’m wondering what Morgan has in store for gamers, especially after some pretty big talk. Because aliens who freeze things and suits that inject the wearer with nanomachines that enhance their abilities a hundred fold isn’t plausible either.
Expect Crysis 2 to show you how aliens destroy New York this Holiday 2010.
