“Teaser” is about the aptest term for the first video uploaded to the Crysis YouTube account in six years. It begins with a slew of comments asking whether the developers will be remastering the first game in the Crysis trilogy, followed by a very brief shot of protagonist Nomad wearing one of the series’ Nanosuits as a radio voiceover assures that “it looks like you’re back online.”

The existence of Crysis Remastered was recently leaked online, including the fact that it would be a multi-platform release — with it being the first Crysis game put on a Nintendo console standing out as especially big news. However, no information was provided as to exactly when fans can expect to see the game come out, the trailer simply ends with a splash screen promoting how Crysis Remastered was made using Cryengine.

While all of this excitement has been bubbling up for the long-abandoned Crysis franchise, even more has come out suggesting fans might be able to expect further content going forward. Crytek recently put out a technical director job posting, one that would be working on an “unannounced AAA title.” With Crysis Remastered “coming soon” based on today’s teaser, this posting likely refers to a different game that Crytek is beginning to develop.

Because 2020 has already been such a big year for remastered games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, a return to 2007’s Crysis feels appropriate. If nothing else, the game will help shore up the already massive last year of this console generation before the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X come out.

The impending release of these next-generation consoles may or may not be affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, though it does not seem like Crysis Remastered has been impacted by worldwide closures. Publisher EA has implemented a “Stay Home Play Together” initiative to help raise money for coronavirus relief efforts.

Crysis Remastered is “coming soon” for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
