In his own words, Yerli praises why CryEngine 3 is so important to game development.
It’s true that CryEngine 3 does render and create an impressive gaming environment and content, but you don’t see many users of the engine as compared to companies who use iterations of the Unreal Engine. Perhaps that fact will change after Crysis 2 releases in the next few months, showing gamers and developers alike that CryEngine 3 will be able to thrive in both the limited power of a console as well as the always changing PC gaming landscape.
Most importantly, right now we’re looking at multiplatform development and I just think that our competitors’ engines couldn’t deliver Crysis 2, and that’s the most important statement for me."
On the other end of the spectrum, Gears of War 3 looks impressive in its own right, but it will undoubtedly still have that same look gamers have been accustomed to since the beginning of the series. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it just looks like Epic Games might have a bit of an uphill battle if Crysis 2 delivers on even some of its promises.
Crysis 2 will be releasing on March 22, 2011 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
