RELATED: Cult of the Lamb: Every Doctrine (And Which Ones To Pick)

Early in the game, there won’t be as many options when it comes to cleanliness, but as the cult progresses, the Lamb will be able to construct more sophisticated buildings and cook higher-quality meals for their followers. Doctrine choices can also help keep the area clean by making it easier to bury followers or giving them better resistance to simple food.

The Cult And Sanitation Issues

Vomit

Where there’s food, there’s vomit, and considering the low quality of the early recipes available, there really should be more of it. Several early dishes that the Lamb will use to sustain the Cult in the initial stages of building the compound have a decent chance of making followers sick.

Players will notice the green germ icon hovering over an unsightly puddle, and unlike poop, vomit can only be cleaned up and has no redeeming value.

Dead Bodies

There’s a Ritual available that allows the Lamb to resurrect followers, which is one way to avoid having to prepare and bury the dead. Followers can and do pass away of old age, while others are sacrificed or die of sickness.

There’s a Doctrine that allows in-cult murder, which is another reason the player might have to deal with a corpse. The dead body of a follower can be buried, composed, or harvested for their meat, depending on what kind of cult the Lamb has built.

Fertilizer

Everybody poops, including the Cultists, but this poop can be recycled as fertilizer or even food, depending on the circumstances. Certain foods make followers poop more than others, so be cautious of those high-fiber dishes that mostly consist of veggies.

There’s a lot of poop in Cult of the Lamb, but it can be used as fertilizer for the crops or as a cooking ingredient, so not a total loss.

Burnt Food

Like vomit, this is the only mess that doesn’t have any other uses except to be cleaned up. Cooking can be tricky, especially if the crowd is a big one, and any dish that’s made when the bar is outside the green cooking bar is going to burn. It’s gross and followers will complain, and nobody wants a mess in the kitchen anyway.

Sanitation And Buildings

Body Pit. A simple grave for a single dead body. This is one of the earliest structures the Lamb can unlock. Compost Bin. Fill this handy receptacle with grass to be turned into fertilizer for crops. Fertilizer Silo. Collect poop from the Compost Bin and the Outhouse and store it here to be used with farm plots. Natural Burial. It looks similar to a Compost Bin and works in the same way, but it’s for dead bodies. Outhouse. A simple but effective way to keep cultists from pooping all over the compound. This still has to be cleaned up but at least it’s all in one place. Janitor Station. Essentially the utility closet, this little hut contains cleaning products and supplies to let the followers clean up after themselves. Healing Bay. Sick followers can heal with bed rest, but using a Healing Bay is much faster. If the Lamb needs to help many ill followers at once, it’s helpful.

Doctrines And Sanitation

The sanitation of the flock can be improved by taking on certain useful Doctrines. These can help when it comes to disposing of corpses, food supply, or work ethic.

Return to the Earth. Related to the Doctrines of the Afterlife, this allows followers to be composted after they die instead of being buried or eaten by other cult members. Grass Easter Trait. Normally, the Grassy Gruel recipe has a 25% chance of making a character sick and making a mess in the compound, but this Doctrine takes away that possibility and makes it safe to eat. Ritual of Ressurection. It’s a dramatic solution to the problem of what to do with a dead body - just bring that follower back to life. However, the cooldown time on Rituals means that players can’t rely on it entirely.

Cult of the Lamb is currently available on PC, macOS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
